Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School, hosted a screening of the film Nuclear Tipping Point and a conversation with the Honorable Sam Nunn, CEO, Nuclear Threat Initiative, and U.S. Senator, D-Georgia (1972-1997); David Sanger, White House Correspondent, New York Times; and Graham Allison (moderator), Director, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School. 

White House Hosts Screening of Nuclear Tipping Point

Nuclear Tipping Point, a documentary film on today’s global nuclear dangers, will be screened tonight at the White House. The screening will be attended by the four featured in the documentary – former Secretaries of State George Shultz and Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of Defense William Perry and former Senator Sam Nunn – as well as film narrator and actor Michael Douglas and General Colin Powell, who provides the film’s prologue.

Munich Statesmen’s Dialogue

George Shultz, William Perry, Henry Kissinger, and Sam Nunn, co-hosted a Statesmen’s Dialogue in Munich on February 5, 2010. The meeting was attended by former senior officials from the UK, Norway, Italy, France, Poland, and Germany who have joined together in their respective countries to endorse the vision of a world free of nuclear weapons and the steps toward that goal. The purpose of the meeting was to generate discussion and develop ideas on Europe and NATO's role in the nuclear threat reduction process and to develop next steps for furthering the threat reduction agenda.

NSP Principals in Berlin

The four NSP Principals met with senior German officials and former officials in Berlin to discuss the nuclear threat as well as the objectives and priorities for threat reduction of the German government. In addition to private meetings with Helmut Schmidt, Richard von Weizsäcker, and Hans-Dietrich Genscher, the Principals also met with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Guido Westerwelle. The four Principals also participated in a panel with their four German counterparts at the American Academy in Berlin where they discussed their efforts to work toward a world free of nuclear weapons.
